Response by Sam Cox to "The Cosmic Vision by Nanduri": (India)Hello! Dr. Nanduri is a "high voltage" guy. His accomplishments are impressive to say the least, including an earned Ph.D and many published works. I studied electrical theory, but never put it to practical use until I came to Micronesia and found out there were only two people on the island who knew more than me-and they were not available to wire my air-conditioner and hot water heater! We had 400 foot long Romex 12/2 lines serving houses with electric stoves...a situation I felt obliged to correct as soon as possible! I have a solar hot water system on the roof, and it works fine, but without storage, my water at night is a bit "brisk", even here at 6 Degrees north of the equator. I grade about 50 research papers each semester here at the college. English in Micronesia is a second language, as it is in India. I feel Dr Nanduri has a reasonable command of English, but I did have some problems with his communication of meaning- and in scientific writing, defining terms and being precise is our greatest challenge. I felt this irresistible urge to "translate" for him, and then as he proceeded, I would realize my perception of his meaning was wrong. It is one thing to proofread a college sophomore paper, and quite another to proofread the work of a Ph.D.! I suggest Dr. Nanduri write in his native language, the language of his birth, the one he can most precisely express himself in, and then have his work professionally proofread (I speak English and have all my formal work professionally proofread) by a trusted associate who speaks both his language with native speaker proficiency and English the same way. A person who grew up bilingual in his home region would be best. Dr. Nanduris paper is heavily philosophical, even Astrological, but religious intuitive insight around the world has an uncanny feeling for SR, GR and QM. That insight, combined with his scientific training make Dr. Nanduri's paper interesting to read, and fill it with flashes of intuitive genius. To a western reader, unfamiliar with Hindu culture, Dr. Nanduri's frame of reference might seem strange. I myself feel perfectly comfortable living in a cultural frame of reference 180 degrees from my own...but it took some getting used to. The three Sanskrit principles Dr. Nanduri lists on page two of his paper are heavily Einsteinian: 1.Energy is the foundation of the universes existence 2.(The concept dearest to my heart) The "Northern" and "Southern" Cosmos (the "Hemispheres" of the Hyperspherical universe) and 3.What we are observing and are able to observe at this time is less than one hemisphere of the whole universe. I see the universe as a mechanical construct, and I'm inclined as a Westerner, (but also I think for some pretty good philosophical and scientific reasons) to feel that the universe is only mysterious to the extent that we do not understand it. However, in a sense, even if we understand it, the universe continues to have a mysterious, even magical quality about it. The "flow dominant universe" is an interesting concept and is GR related, but despite the state of the experimental verification of SR, GR and QM and the obvious relationship of his ideas to relativistic concepts, Einstein is not mentioned in Dr. Nanduri's paper. Experiments are introduced as much in the vein that they create new problems and fulfill a cosmic vision as that they at least begin to answer questions. I can sympathize with experimental results creating new problems, but the primary quest of science ultimately is to find answers, real answers- not speculative and unsubstantiated intuitive ideas. "A cosmic universe is self-contained"...very good and quite Einsteinian. The 7-D Einsteinian Hyperspherical Universe finds infinity in eternal existence and deep within its own structure- at the biological level. The concept of cosmic "pot" is used over and over again, but is not defined for outsiders who read the paper. I initially presumed the term referred to the the sum total of everything in the universe, but gather from the text the term has more limited meanings as well. I'm sure the meaning of the term would be understood by readers with a Hindu background. On page 6 Dr. Nanduri refers to Cosmic Pot as the circular flow of energy in the universe...or "energy return for completeness", but I gather the term has other shades of meaning as well. "A human being on Earth is part of the Galactic (Cosmic?) home." If the word "cosmic" is intended, the thought is quite Einsteinian by inference. Dr. Nanduri uses the term "junction" frequently ...appropriate for an electrical engineer! We all associate the unknown with our own frame of reference, but so we can all share in the intended meaning, the cosmological meaning of "Junction" should be carefully defined. "Cosmos may be divided into two parts conveniently, with one as a mirror image of the other, each in seven dimensions." This is also directly related to the 7-D Einsteinian Hyperspherical Universe, but the two "hemispheres" of an Einsteinian universe are not exact mirror images of each other, much as my left leg is shorter than my right. This imperfection of symmetry, mountains on the round Earth for example or "not quite" bilateral symmetry in higher animals is called "Chirality" by scientists. Chiral planes and surfaces are often dynamic regions (interfaces) in the universe- places where life originates and changes. The exact dimensional structure of the universe is nothing I would personally be too assertive about. I really appreciated Dr. Nanduri's description of the cosmos on page 7 when he talks about what we in the west know as "big bangs" and "black holes" in the following way: " The north region helps to eject out the energy, while the south region ...helps to retrieve the energy." This is quite a fine description of the antipodes of the 7-D Einsteinian Hyperspherical Universe. Dr. Nanduri is to be commended for his scientific and intellectual achievements. His paper is interesting to read for many reasons, but I am afraid I missed a lot of important meaning! Sincerely, Samuel A. Cox, College of Micronesia |
